Colors of war
Exhibition “Colors of War” it is the military chronicle of Russia through the eyes of battle artists. Different paintings from the collections of several museums, copies of the most interesting graphic works of masters of the XIX-th century, dedicated to the Russian Imperial army, are presented at the exhibition.
Visitors will see the famous painting by Sergei Gerasimov “Kutuzov on the Borodino field” — this canvas is like an illustration for the novel “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy. A detailed look at the uniforms of various ranks of the Preobrazhensky life guard can be found on the picture from the collection of the State Historical Museum by Alexander Ivanovich Sauerweid, who was a Professor of battle painting at the Imperial Academy of arts.
The composition center of the exhibition is a monumental work by Alexey Ivanovich Vepkhvadze from the collection of the Museum-panorama Battle of Borodino. It depicts the tragic moment of the fatal injury of General Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration on the Borodino field. Thanks to the works provided by the Khimki art gallery, visitors will get acquainted with the works of the artist Vasily Sergeevich Pshenichnikov — the author of the famous painting Victory Parade. His paintings are dedicated to military events of different centuries and give a clear idea of how different Russian soldiers were at all times, how different they looked, they were always united by courage, fortitude and the will to win.
