Yesterday, the Military Uniform Museum hosted the grand opening of the Museum and exhibition project "Georgy Zhukov. Time of Power and forgotten reforms", dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society Vladimir Medinsky. In his welcoming speech, Vladimir Rostislavovich noted: "The revolutionary wave has raised up the unique talents of people. Such as Zhukov, like Rokossovsky, and many, many others. I highly recommend that anyone who cares about military history come to this exhibition. You won't see another similar one, it will tell you about how Zhukov tried to reform the army, including military uniforms. " .
The exhibition project tells about the activities of Georgy Zhukov as the Minister of Defense of the Soviet Union in 1955-1957. The main focus is on the now-forgotten reforms of military uniforms. The exhibition includes items from the collection of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Victory Museum, the Grekov Studio of Military Artists, the Russian State Library of Arts and private collections of Sergei Korolev, Alexey Stepanov, Sergei Zorin, Kirill Tsyplenkov, Maxim Malinovsky.
- You will not see such a form in any museum in our country. As a rule, the museums of the form are associated with some battles, victories, and in that short period from 1955 to 1957, the country did not conduct military operations, there were no new war heroes, and therefore this form is not represented in museums. But, in my opinion, this is the most beautiful uniform in the entire history of the Soviet army, the most unique and expensive. Not everyone knows, but the officers', marshals 'and generals' dress uniforms were marked with 999 gold, – the collector stressed Sergey Korolev.
In a solemn atmosphere, a representative of one of the participants of the exhibition – the Russian State Library of Arts-a consultant on the uniform of the Visual Information Center of the Russian State Library of Arts, Kirill Tsyplenkov gave the Museum of Military Uniforms a priceless gift from the funds of the Russian State Library of Military Sciences – a collection album with samples of woolen fabrics that were approved for supply to the Ministry of Defense of the USSR in 1947.
- By itself, the exhibition halls have created an unprecedented environment, because previously there was simply no reason to collect such items in one place. The selected chronological period associated with the stay of Georgy Zhukov in the ministerial post turned out to be a very interesting find in order to show in all its beauty the military uniform of the Soviet Army of the 1955 model, which, by the way, had not previously found a reason for specialized exposure, – said Kirill Vladimirovich.
The commander of the Center for Military-Historical Reconstruction "Garrison-A" shared his impressions about the opening Timur Cherepnin : "I love this museum very much and have been here since its opening. I come and see what changes are taking place here: the collection is replenished and updated, the most interesting inter-museum projects appear, such as Suvorov, Zhukov.
Today, a very pleasant atmosphere was created at the opening, not many people attach importance to this, but in my opinion it is extremely important to create an atmosphere from the moment you enter the museum. When guests enter the hall, they understand that they were very much expected here and very prepared".
The exhibition halls feature samples of uniforms and equipment of the Soviet Army of the mid-1950s, unique items of experimental clothing left in the form of projects and made in single copies, as well as documents, personal belongings of Georgy Zhukov, photos and videos.
Within the framework of the exhibition, thematic excursions and lectures will be held. Buy exhibition tickets and on combined tours you can do it now. Follow the announcements of the lectures on our official website in "News" section.
